You can't go wrong with George Ade. However I purchased it from for about $3.00 and now it is over $20. No longer a bargain, but still a good book.
I was enthralled by Jean Shepherd's all-night radio show when I was a teenager. Shep would read George Ade to us into the wee hours. Tirelessly.
Getting into the the Real Deal today makes me realize how much Ade seeded the Style and Wit that Shepherd showed in his later writing. (Caps in honor of Ade)
Normally I am not a huge reader of fable type book, however, at a free price, I thought OK, why not give this book a try? The fables are interesting and even kept my attention. What I liked about each fable is that each one is not too long.
For me, this is like reading a fairy tale, but in adult form the fable.
If you like short stories that have a moral to the story or meaningful meaning to the story, this is a nice book. Keep in mind that it is written about people long ago and not set into today the modern world. However, I did find this a fun and entertaining book to read and something different from the books that I usually read.
